Can you handle high temperatures? If you can’t, don’t feel bad – most of
us like to stay cool in the hot weather. Obviously, you want to get the most
from your air conditioning service, and you also want to make sure that your
energy bill is as low as possible. Here are a few tips that will help you to
stay cool while still saving money on your heating and air conditioning
service.
1. Cool only the area you’re in. If you’re working in your home office, and
only venturing out to the kitchen for coffee, don’t worry about cooling the
kitchen. Turn it down until dinner time.
2. At night time, turn down the AC. It’s cooler at night and besides, once
you fall asleep, you won’t notice a difference of a few degrees in the
temperature.
3. Close the vents in the basement. It’s always the coolest area of the
house, so it really doesn’t need all that much help.
4. Check the ducts, and make sure your insulation is up to par. There’s no
point in providing AC to the great outdoors.
5. Set your thermostat to 78 degrees. That will allow your AC to operate at
the best performance level.
6. Arrange your furniture in such a way that it doesn’t block vents – why
would you want to cool the back of a sofa?
7. Close your drapes on hot days so the sun doesn’t raise the heat level in
your home and make your air conditioning unit work overtime.
8. When you’re away, turn the AC up. Your furniture doesn’t care if it
stays cool.
9. Turn off your lights when possible.
10.Remember “if the glove doesn’t fit, you must
acquit?” Well, here’s another one – “When you can, use a fan.” It circulates
air through your house and uses a lot less energy than your AC system.
